Mariko Mori was born in Tokyo, Japan in 1967 and currently lives and works in London, New York and Tokyo. The daughter of an art historian and an inventor, Mori began her career as a photographer and video artist, transitioning into installation art and sculpture.
Mori’s early photography incorporated the “cosplay” (costume-play) subculture. Byzar collaborated with multimedia artist Mariko Mori on the music for her 3-D work "Nirvana", which was featured in the 1997 Venice Bienniale.

Difficult as the logistics were, once a location was confirmed, the real work began. “There were so many engineers used to create the cantilever that “Oneness" is a consistent concept in Mariko Mori’s work - a world in which human beings are one with nature, where the rhythm of humanity moves in concert with that of the natural environment. Her current projects aim to evoke this memory in our consciousness and to celebrate the existing balance in nature, using themes of life, death, rebirth and the universe. Mariko Mori is known for her abilities as a visionary well ahead of her time, and for her ability to move between the fields of performance art, media art, photography, and sculptures. She became known in the 1990s for her pop-futuristic works, which focused primarily on manga and cyber-cultural phenomena.
