The daughter of an art historian and an inventor, Mori began her career as a photographer and video artist, transitioning into installation art and sculpture.

Mori’s early photography incorporated the “cosplay” (costume-play) subculture. Byzar collaborated with multimedia artist Mariko Mori on the music for her 3-D work "Nirvana", which was featured in the 1997 Venice Bienniale.
